Girona clocked up their first ever win in the top flight, although they did get a bit of a helping hand from Jaime Latre, who allowed Alcalá’s goal to stand even though he was marginally offside in the play. Elsewhere rookie referee Alberola Rojas (who at 26 is, we understand, the youngest ever to officiate in La Liga), upset Pepe Mel and Deportivo when he awarded a late penalty to Levante after Juanfran and Ivi both went for a high ball in the area. The match ended 2-2 thanks to that penalty. Alberola also fell out with Levante captain Morales, who had a few choice words to say after he was sent off! (See “Villains” section for more) (29.08.17)
