Munuera Montero was presented with a bit of a dilemma this Sunday. With the controversial Catalan referendum taking place that day, Barça had asked for their match against Las Palmas in the Nou Camp to be rescheduled. The LFP refused however, arguing that they wouldn’t allow this for an illegal act, and on the day of the match it became clear that the under pressure security forces (regional and national police) were not going to be able to stop possible incidents from the separatists, in particular a suspected pitch invasion. Several of the Barça board and a couple of the Catalan players wanted to cancel the match anyway as a protest, but when it became clear that they would forfeit the game 0-3, and that they would also be docked a further three points, it was finally decided to play behind closed doors. Barça won 3-0 and there were no serious incidents, but with the issue still ongoing it remains to be seen what will happen over the next few weeks. (04.10.17)
