Las Palmas coach Paco Jémez got himself into a bit of a pickle when he agreed with a local journalist in the press conference that it was easy to referee the Las Palmas games. They were referring to the two penalties which González Fuentes awarded to Real Madrid, and maybe also to a hard tackle by Bale which should have been at least a fifth yellow card of the season, and which would have meant he would have missed next weekend’s derby game against Atlético. Simeone’s team stay four points clear of their neighbours after they beat Deportivo 1-0, but only thanks to a controversial penalty which Trujillo Suárez gave them after Saúl fell theatrically following a slight tug on his shirt by Mosquera. Elsewhere Getafe felt hard done by when Undiano Mallenco turned down their appeals for a last gasp equaliser against Betis, Cabrera’s header appearing to cross the line before Adán palmed it away. More arguments for using the VAR system in Spain? (03.04.18)
