Much wailing and gnashing of teeth at Real Madrid this weekend after referee Munuera Montero decided not to consult VAR after Real Sociedad keeper Rulli brought down Vinicius in the area. The visitors were winning 0-1 at the time, and went on to score again after that to take the three points. Munuera also awarded the Basque side an early penalty for a foul on the edge of the area, and sent off Lucas Vázquez for a rather harsh second yellow card. Madrid president Florentino Pérez was so upset that he threatened to resign from the Federation’s board, although the referees defended the Vinicius penalty incident, pointing out that Rulli got a hand to the ball before clattering in to the striker.
