Many questions this weekend about when VAR should be consulted and when not. Rayo’s president Raúl Martín Presa complained that González González didn’t review any of his team’s four penalty claims in a 0-0 draw against fellow strugglers Huesca, and Real Sociedad keeper Rulli felt that Gónzalez Fuertes should have checked whether Dembélé, standing in offside position, got in this way when Jordi Alba scored the winner. On the other hand, Mateu Lahoz couldn’t keep his eyes off the screen in Sunday’s battle for the Champions League spots between Getafe and Sevilla, awarding two penalties for the hosts for handling in the area (the second leading to a red card for Escudero), validating Molina’s third (possible foul on Kjaer?), and sending off Djené later on for a high tackle on Navas. It’s still not perfect, but it looks like VAR is here to stay. (22.04.19)
