A bit boring at first we
suppose, the keepers' table. Well they've only played one game, so little to
talk about. Five keepers kept clean sheets, and another five only let in one
goal, so they are our early leaders. We have kept the same order as last
season's final chart, which means that Cañizares (who else) already
heads our table. It remains to be seen whether his new manager Rafa
Benítez will play in the same fashion as Héctor Cúper, but
if he does there is no competition for the Zamora trophy this season. Of the
top five, Nacho González is worthy of a mention for his penalty save
against Mallorca's Luque. That would have put them behind, but inspired by his
performance his tem went on to spring the surprise of the day, running out 0-3
winners against the Champions League side. There are two new names in the
chart, with Kike from Alavés taking over from Herrera (who served a
brief ban for minor passport irregularities) and Barcelona's new signing Bonano
making his debut in the Spanish league. Some old faces have gone, including
Real Madrid's Illgner, who retired, and Rayo's Kasey Keller, who has moved on
to Spurs. Esteban (Oviedo), Ceballos (Racing) and Burgos (signed by
Atlético Madrid) will be plying their trade in the second division this
year, but not so Numancia's Nuñez, who fell foul of the three non-EU
limit and has had to leave the club. (27.08.01) |
