Zamoras

Another low scoring weekend in the first division with only 20 goals in all. Two matches ended scoreless, and eight keepers kept clean sheets including Bonano, his third in a row. Barcelona have not let in so few goals in the first five matches of the season for many years now. Bonano now heads the table together with fellow countryman Cavallero, who was beaten for the first time this weekend after 430 minutes. It did however take an own goal from one of his own players, Juanfran, to do so, and Pandiani got a second against him from the penalty spot at the end of the match. Kike, Cañizares and López Vallejo all join Nacho González on minus two after defending their 'parcelas', and Prats, Láinez and Tenerife's Julio Iglesias (no, not that one) were the other three to maintain their account at zero.

Julio Iglesias came in to the side after Aragoneses went down with gastric enteritis, and he follows in the footsteps of the more famous Spaniard of the same name, who before becoming a world famous entertainer (or not) was actually the reserve team goalkeeper at Real Madrid (not a lot of people know that). Other keepers to feature this week were Bilbao's Lafuente, who got his place back at Bilbao, Espanyol's Argensó, who was given a second chance after letting in five at Real Madrid, and Mallorca's Miki, who stepped in for the injured Leo Franco. He did not play in their Champions League victory at Schalke 04 though, with Carlos Roa coming back for his first game in over a year to put in a good performance. Roa cannot play in the league as Mallorca already have four non-EU players, although the same rule doesn't apply in Europe. If Ibagaza gets dual nationality though, he could be drafted in to the squad when the transfer window opens in December. (01.10.01)
