Goalkeepers rule this weekend, with no less than nine of
our first division "cancerberos" recording clean sheets. All of our first four
keepers managed the feat, with Bonano and Nacho González putting in
splendid performances as their sides held each other to a 0-0 draw. Lafuente
and López Vallejo did likewise, as did Palop and Aragoneses. The
Valencia number two keeper has only let in two goals in the five games he has
started, and although Cañizares is very close to returning after
breaking a rib a couple of months ago, he will have to fight to regain his
position. Between the two of them they have only let in eight league goals, as
have Alavés, for whom Herrera is proving a more then adequate stand-in
for the injured Kike. His side moved second with a 1-0 victory over Celta.
Valladolid's Ricardo celebrated his first cap for Spain helping his side to a
2-0 victory over Zaragoza, and Betis got the same result against Rayo
Vallecano, with Prats once again starring in in between the sticks for the
Sevilla based side. Goalkeeping changes this week included the return of
Cavallero for Celta after acting as understudy to Mono Burgos for Argentina,
and the replacement of the suspended Argensó by Mora for Espanyol.
