Another relatively good
weekend for goalkeepers, with only 22 goals conceded in the ten matches. Bonano
got hit for a couple by new leaders Alavés, and so Prats catches him at
the top of our chart after another good performance helped Betis up to second
place. In fact the two best defences in the league do not feature in our
rankings, with Kike and Herrera sharing the honours at Alavés, who have
only let in nine goals in 15 games, and Palop standing in for Cañizares
for six games at Valencia (11 from 15 between them) when the Spanish
international broke a rib. Both Herrera and Cañizares should be topping
the charts soon when they have completed enough matches. Leo Franco does come
in for Láinez in last place now that he has completed 10
games.
As well as Prats and
Herrera, there were three more clean sheets at the weekend. Nacho
González put the pressure on the leaders, defending his castle against
Sevilla, and he is only a point behind the top two. Espanyol's Mora kept his
place despite letting in four the week before at Celta, and he rewarded his
manager with a shut out against the all-powerful Deportivo, and Málaga's
Contreras shook off the injury from last week to hold off the Real Sociedad
forwards in a vital relegation battle. (03.12.01) |
