Sander Westerveld finally signed for Real Sociedad , and
despite Alberto's valiant performance last week, made his debut this weekend.
He was just a bystander though for much of the 90 minutes as his side destroyed
Valladolid, putting six past Spain's current number three international keeper
Ricardo. The Dutch keeper wasn't the only one to play his first game in the
Spanish top flight this weekend, Real Madrid's third choice 'portero' Carlos
Sánchez coming in for the suspended Casillas and the injured
César. He made a good debut, making a vital stop in the last minute to
save a point for his side. Herrera moves to the top of the chart without
playing a game, the match between Rayo and Alavés being called off due
to a snow covered pitch. Last week's leader Prats let in a couple at La
Coruña. Other notable performances include that of Nacho
González, who scored a goal from the penalty spot, Notario, who saved a
penalty to little avail as Catanha followed up to score, and Láinez, who
returned in goal for Zaragoza in place of Juanmi. There were five clean sheets
in an average week for goals, including the aforementioned Westerveld, plus
Cavallero (Celta), Lafuente (Bilbao), Molina (Deportivo) and Mora (Espanyol).
