Last year's winner of the
Zamora prize, Valencia's Santiago Cañizares, came out on top against
this year's leader Nacho González at the weekend, his side beating Las
Palmas 0-1 thanks to a great performance by the Spanish number one. Other than
Cañizares there were five clean sheets, including two of the men who
will be competing with the Valencia keeper for a place in Spain's squad for the
next World Cup, Ricardo and Contreras, in the score-less draw between
Valladolid and Málaga. The other man in Camacho's plans, Iker Casillas,
did his cause some good as well with a penalty save from Amato. Roa kept his
place for the second week at Mallorca and has still to let in a goal as his
team rack up their second victory in a row, and Unzué and Notario both
held out against the Catalan hordes from Barcelona and Espanyol. Celta's Pinto
was the man whose picture appeared in most papers. The keeper was substituting
the suspended Cavallero and sported a racy little number, a tight short sleeved
shirt which is more often seen on professional wrestlers and bodybuilders. To
date we have not received any orders for it from our internet shop.
