Another low scoring weekend,
particularly on Sunday where only nine goals were scored in seven games. Nobody
let in seven this week though (Nacho González is smiling again), with
the goals fairly evenly spread around. Once again there were six clean sheets,
starting with our current Zamora Toni Prats, whose side won the battle at
Alavés between the two teams who have let in the least goals this
season. Celta's Cavallero joins Cañizares on minus two after drawing 0-0
at home to Málaga, with his opposite number Contreras putting in the
best performance of the day to stop the Gallicians from regaining top spot.
Goalkeepers played an important role in the struggle to avoid relegation this
week, with Westerveld returning to Real Sociedad's side and keeping out a
goal-hungry Nico Olivera amongst others, and Etxeberria helping Rayo to a 2-0
victory over direct rivals Tenerife. The Canary Islanders' keeper Aragoneses
was not so fortunate though, getting himself sent off after bringing down Bolic
outside the area midway through the first half. Second choice keeper Julio "not
the singer" Iglesias took over between the sticks, but his team lost and his
manager got fired. Mallorca's Roa made some good saves at Zaragoza, but then
let Toro Acuña's long shot through his hands for the only goal, taking
his team down to the bottom three. Láinez remained steadfast at the
other end. (18.02.02) |
