A good week for keepers, all
that is except Bilbao's Lafuente. He let in eleven goals in a game and a half
over the last eight days, and disappears from the map completely. Jupp Heynckes
must be seriously thinking about bringing in young keeper Aranzubia, but
strangely enough most of the goals were not really the keeper's fault. Both of
our leading keepers managed clean sheets this week to keep up the battle for
the Zamora prize, Cañizares in Valencia's one goal victory over Tenerife
and Prats in a second 0-0 draw in a row for Betis, this time against
Etxeberria's Rayo Vallecano. Sergio Kresic finally got fed up with his first
choice keeper Roa at Mallorca and brought back Leo Franco. Luis Aragonés
and Bernd Krauss could have saved him the trouble; they both started with
someone else in goal and eventually ended up with the young Argentine between
the sticks. Sure enough Mallorca won to keep their heads above water. It was a
strange weekend though, with five teams failing to score at home and only two
away, and they both picked up a point in 0-0 draws. Other than those mentioned
above, clean sheets then for Lainez (Zaragoza), Ricardo (Valladolid),
César (Real Madrid) and Contreras (Málaga), his third in a row.
