Zamoras

Valencia's Santiago Cañizares won the Zamora prize for the second year in a row without playing in a minute in the last match. Cañi had apparently had a couple of sleepless nights as his wife had given birth to another child, and Palop took his place for the game against Betis. His replacement did well though, saving a late penalty from Casas as his team won 2-0 in a night of celebration. Prats missed the match as well as he had still not recovered from his back pains, and Gaspercic kept his place . In fact several managers used the occasion to give a run out to their number two keepers, with Lopetegui returning for Rayo and Sanzol playing at Osasuna. Mora also came back for Espanyol and Pinto for Celta, although that was not through choice as both Argensó and Cavallero were unavailable. Ricardo (Valladolid) and López Vallejo (Villarreal) did play though, and they were therefore the only two players who played every minute of every league match during the season. Other than Palop there were four clean sheets, Herrera (Alavés), Molina (Deportivo), Lopetegui (Rayo) and Notario (Sevilla). Finally a Zubizarreta returned between the posts in the Spanish leagues. He was however a left back, and had to take over for the last half hour for Burgos after both keepers had to leave the field injured. (12.05.02)
