It was another difficult
week for keepers, with 33 goals scored in the ten games. Celta's Cavallero
moves to the top of our chart after his great performance at Recreativo. The
Argentine number one stopped a second half penalty and produced a series of
saves which contributed to his team heading the first division. Last week's
joint leaders Cañizares and Bizzarri both let in two, and they have been
caught by Víctor Valdés, who kept a clean sheet in the Barcelona
derby match.
Three keepers came in to
their sides for the first time this season for various reasons.
Atlético's Spanish international Esteban made his debut for his new club
thanks to an injury to Mono Burgos, and immediately opened up a debate as to
whom should be the first choice. He kept a virtually faultless clean sheet, as
did Alavés young keeper Juan Pablo, who displaced the much-questioned
Dutruel between the sticks at Villarreal.
Ceballos also played his
first minutes for newly promoted Racing after Lemmens got himself sent off for
protesting a twice taken penalty. Rayo's Etxeberría saved a spot kick in
that game, although it was little use as Munitis scored on the rebound. Finally
Deportivo's Juanmi is taking advantage of Molina's knee injury to establish
himself in the side, and he kept the weekend's fifth clean sheet of the weekend
against Valladolid. (24.09.02) |
