After a small blip last
week, Cañizares returns to the top of our chart. His third clean sheet
in four games, one of five this week, once again sends a message to
Iñaki Sáez to include him in his plans for the upcoming
international games. Sáez's first choice keeper Casillas also comes back
in to the table as we open up to keepers who have missed a game this season.
Casillas will however make that match up when his side continue the rest of the
game against Betis which was suspended due to floodlight failure two weeks ago.
Talking of Betis, their number one Prats stopped Barcelona from scoring for the
first time this season, whilst his forwards were putting three past
Víctor Valdés at the other end. The other clean sheets were
Argensó and Notario in the scoreless draw between Espanyol and Sevilla,
and Mallorca's Leo Franco at Athletic Bilbao. There was also one debut this
week, Rayo's reserve team keeper Oscar taking over from the injured
Etxeberría in the second half at Valencia.
Last week's Zamora, Celta's
Cavallero, passed a late fitness test to keep up his 100% appearance record in
the league, although he did let in two goals against Málaga. His
opposite number Contreras did likewise, saving a second half penalty from
Mostovoi into the bargain. It was a funny week for penalties, with a record
eight awarded in all, three of which were saved. Two of these were in the same
match, with Recreativo's César (same name as the Madrid keeper but not
him) stopping a Fernando Torres spot kick in the second half. That was less
talked about though than the first save by Mono Burgos, the eccentric keeper
getting caught out at first trying to dribble round Raúl Molina in his
own area, and after giving away the penalty, diving to stop Bermejo's kick.
Afterwards he held the ball up as if he was a gladiator holding up the severed
head of an opponent. Nice to see him back, although after that performance he
could lose his place to the more sensible Esteban. (01.10.02). |
