Only one name on everybody's
lips this week, Molina. The Depor keeper has decided to retire from the game,
temporarily at least, after being diagnosed with cancer. He was apparently
treated for testicular cancer a year ago and thought he was cured, but tests
revealed a malignant growth in the abdomen a few days ago. Molina has returned
to his home town of Valencia for treatment, but hopes to return to the field of
play within a few months. We wish him all the best.
A low scoring weekend, with
only 24 goals in the ten games. Even so there were only four clean sheets in
two days of surprise results. Leo Franco managed his third clean sheet in a
row, helping Mallorca to three straight wins after they lost their opening
three games. Quite a turn-around. Argensó presided over Espanyol's first
victory of the season (which came too late for manager Juande Ramos), and
Etxeberría (Rayo) and Ceballos (Racing) kept out the dangerous strike
forces of Celta and Real Madrid respectively. (22.10.02). |
