Keepers rule, OK! No less
than ten clean sheets this week out of the twenty keepers in action in the
lowest scoring weekend for years. Four games ended goal-less, which must be
another record, including Saturday's clash between the league's two giants
Barcelona (Bonano) and Real Madrid (Casillas). The others were Rayo Vallecano
(Etxeberría) versus Real Sociedad (Westerveld), Celta (Cavallero) versus
Osasuna (Sanzol) and Málaga (Contreras) versus Alavés (Dutruel).
Esteban kept his place in goal ahead of Mono Burgos at Atlético Madrid
and kept out the Betis forwards (thanks in part to the referee), but once again
it was Cañizares who captured at least some of the headlines, returning
in goal for Spain midweek in the friendly against Bulgaria, and then saving a
late penalty in the league from Colsa to keep his goals against column
blankety-blank. Finally Reina makes the chart this week after completing his
eighth game for Villarreal, despite gifting the equalising goal to Mallorca.
