We have a new leader this
week. Sevilla's Notario takes over from Cañizares after what would have
been his fifth clean sheet in a row if his team had not had to face Real Madrid
from a postponed week 12 match in between. The performances of the Sevilla
keeper has helped his unfancied side into the top half of the table and in to
the quarter final of the cup this season. Cañizares himself had an
unfortunate return this weekend after a seven match lay-off with a knee injury,
getting himself sent off for a tackle on Kluivert in the game at Barcelona.
Valencia still won the game however, and the four goals Bonano let in sends him
crashing down the chart.
Six more clean sheets this
weekend other than Notario's, including Real Sociedad's Westerveld, who saved a
Luccin penalty to redeem his moment of madness the week before. Notario's
opposite number Contreras also joined the list as their sides drew 0-0, the
same result as the game between Reina's Villarreal and Sergio's Espanyol (for
whom Toni Jiménez signed this week). Betis keeper Toni Prats was on the
winning side in a 0-1 win at Racing, as was Valladolid's Bizzarri at Rayo
Vallecano. Rayo's Fernando Vázquez drafted in Segura for that match in
place of Etxeberría, but it did little good and the manager lost his job
the following day. (21.01.03) |
