Celta keeper Cavallero looks
well set to take the Zamora prize after coming out of the Bernabeu stadium
virtually unscathed. Miguel Angel Lotina lined up with four full backs and a
central defender to keep out the Real Madrid superstars, and came away with the
point he needed to keep his side on track for a Champions League place. His
defensive style may not please everybody, but a solid back four is often the
base for a successful side, as Valencia will undoubtedly confirm.
Only three clean sheets this
weekend, with the 27 goals spread fairly evenly amongst the teams. All came in
games which sealed the fate of the three relegated sides, starting with
Osasuna's Sanzol, who kept out the Valladolid attack to ensure a win for his
side which takes them out of reach of their rivals. Recreativo and
Alavés both lost by a single goal to the two Sevilla based clubs,
Notario's Sevilla FC and Prats' Betis, leaving them down and out together with
Rayo Vallecano.
Only one change of keeper
this weekend, Racing's Lemmens being left at home by Dmitri Piterman after he
was reported to have signed for their Sunday opponents, Espanyol. Given that
Toni let in five against the Cantabrians, maybe Clemente has done the right
thing to look for a replacement. (03.06.03) |
