Zamoras

As expected, Cavallero won this year's Zamora prize well ahead of his nearest rival Cañizares. As it happened though, none of the top four keepers played this last weekend, as their clubs had nothing at stake. Many managers gave a run out to their reserve players, with Sevilla's Caballero and Villarreal's Unanua making their first league appearances of the season, both with fairly disastrous effect. The most widely applauded change though was that of Mono Burgos, who returned to the Atlético Madrid side after recovering from his illness.

In all there were six clean sheets, seven if you take into account that Rayo substituted Etxeberría with Segura in the second half of the 0-0 draw with Luque's Recreativo. Westerveld did what was asked of him once again in Real Sociedad's 3-0 win, although it didn't count in the end as Real Madrid also won to pip them for the title. Elsewhere Víctor Valdés threw down the gauntlet to Barcelona's new signing Rustu with another sound performance, Leo Franco got into training for the upcoming cup final and Palop showed once again that he is a more than adequate replacement for Cañizares.
