The new season started with
a few new faces between the sticks, although all 20 who took the field have
played in the first division before. Of the three newly promoted sides,
Zaragoza keep faith with Lainez and Albacete bring ex Mallorca keeper Roa back
to the top flight. Murcia have signed two new "porteros", but preferred
Sánchez Broto to Juanmi. Sánchez had played before at
Málaga, but in recent years he has been "in exile" in the UK, as had
Racing's new signing Ricardo, on loan from Manchester United. Changes of club
for Contreras (Málaga to Betis) and Lemmens (Racing to Espanyol), and
the new generation takes over with Arnau at Málaga and Víctor
Valdés at Barcelona, who Frank Rijkaard preferred to new signing
Rüstü. All got off to a good start in the first round of matches,
with only 17 goals in ten games and six clean sheets. Sorry boys, but for
entertainment's sake we hope that doesn't continue. (01.09.03) |
