Cañizares is out on
his own after a sixth clean sheet in a row in the league, making it 605 minutes
since he last let in a goal. His was one of five clean sheets in an otherwise
high scoring weekend, with Deportivo's Molina keeping out a Barcelona strike
force who scored eight in the UEFA cup midweek. Athletic Bilbao's Aranzubia
probably put in the best performance of the last round of games in the fixture
against Villarreal, consolidating his position as Spain's third choice keeper,
and Iker Casillas finally kept his goals against column to zero for the first
time in the league this season. Their attackers may be galactic, but their
defenders are definitely earthlings.
Zaragoza's Lainez also
helped his side win 1-0 despite playing half an hour with ten men, and he
enters the chart for the first time. Elsewhere there were three goalkeeping
changes this weekend due ti injuries to the current incumbents, with Miki
returning to Mallorca's goal for the third time after Leo Franco pulled out,
Toni choosing the wrong time to reappear for Espanyol in place of Lemmens (he
let in four at Valencia) and Elía making his debut for Osasuna replacing
Sanzol. The young keeper was obviously nervous though and proved to be a bit of
a butterfingers, dropping the ball at the feet of Murcia's Luis García
for him to score. Luckily for him though his side still won. (20.10.03)
