Zamoras

A difficult week for goalkeepers, with 36 goals against in the ten games. Cañizares was finally beaten after 621 minutes without letting in a goal in the league, which unfortunately leaves him a few minutes short of the club record, held by Abelardo. He is still well ahead of his rivals though in our chart. There were in fact only three clean sheets, for Westerveld (Real Sociedad), Cavallero (Celta) and also for Bizzarri (Valladolid), who heaven knows needed one after letting in 13 goals in his last five games.

We had a new keeper this weekend too - his name was.... er...Torricelli? The veteran defender had to take over in goal for the last quarter of an hour after Lemmens was sent off in Espanyol's game with Celta, as all three substitutions had been made. Celta manager Miguel Angel Lotina was so embarrassed that he ordered his players not to score again after Mostovoi tucked away the resulting penalty, but youngster Jandro couldn't resist when the Italian went walk about, and lobbed him from just over the half way line. Don't give up your day job just yet...... . (27.10.03)
