Zamoras

Cañizares edges ahead in our chart as we hit the midpoint of the season, coinciding with his team's return to the top of the table after their 0-1 win at Albacete. That earned them the honorary title of winter champions, which we guess means that Cañi is the honorary winter Zamora. His was one of six clean sheets in the league in a weekend of mixed fortunes, with five other "porteros" letting in three or more. The Barcelona boys were amongst the former bunch, Espanyol's Lemmens keeping his goals against column to zero for the second week in a row to send a message to Luis Fernández that he doesn't have to sign anyone else, and Víctor Valdés returning to the Barça side after Rüstü's two disastrous outings to restore some order to the defence. As well as Lemmens, Atlético's Juanma and Betis's Contreras have also not let in a goal in the new year, and Real Sociedad's Alberto is proving an able substitute for the injured Westerveld, keeping out Ronaldo, Raúl and company in a match where Casillas proved that, despite playing for a galactic side, he is in fact only human.
