The opening game of the
weekend between Bizzarri's Valladolid and Cañizares's Valencia ended
without goals, but after that there was only one clean sheet in the rest of the
matches, Villarreal's Reina helping his side's push for the Champions' League
spots with another fine performance. Cañizares has now opened up a two
goal gap on the Molina and Sanzol. For all the rest it was just another day at
work, all that is except Barcelona's B team keeper Jorquera, who will remember
last Saturday as the day he made his debut for the first team. Frank Rijkaard
surprisingly drafted him in ahead of Rüstü after Víctor
Valdés went down with flu, and the Turkish keeper is now considering his
future. The youngster didn't do badly either, making several good saves before
Athletic finally got a late equaliser. Elsewhere Westerveld had to take a place
on the bench on his return to fitness as Denoueix kept faith with Alberto, and
Almunia and Juanma kept their places in goal at Albacete and Atlético
respectively as Roa is recovering from an operation and Burgos is still not
fully fit. (19.01.04) |
