We have a new leader this
week. Deportivo's Molina recording his fourth clean sheet in a row to move one
point ahead of Cañizares. Despite his recent scorecards reminding us of
binary code though, it is unlikely that he will get a recall to the Spanish
side at this late stage in his career. The third spot behind Casillas and
Cañizares for the Euro 2004 finals is tipped to go to one of three
youngsters, Aranzubia, Víctor Valdés or Reina. Of the three,
Valdés came out best this weekend with a good performance as
Barça beat Valencia 0-1 in the Mestalla stadium.
Other than Molina and
Valdés, five other keepers kept clean sheets in a low scoring weekend.
Atlético's Aragoneses was relieved to be one of them after letting in
three in his first two appearances, and he was joined by Almunia (Albacete),
Arnau (Málaga), Ricardo (Racing) and Esteban (Sevilla). (23.02.04)
