What a difference a day
makes! The clash between the top two keepers Cañizares and Molina ended
with the Valencia keeper coming out on top after his side won the match 3-0.
Although the result was flattering though for the home side, with two of the
goals coming in the last few moments of the game, the fact remains that
Cañizares is now three points ahead of his rival. Having let in six in
the last two matches, Molina has been caught by Sanzol, despite the Osasuna
keeper's big mistake which allowed Real Sociedad's Kovacevic to steal away a
point in their local derby.
Sanzol was not the only one
to hit the headlines though in a bad weekend for the number ones. Celta's Pinto
and Athletic's Aranzubia both let in silly goals when their poor clearances
were stuffed straight back down their proverbial throats by wily attackers, and
Mallorca's Miki crashed into his own player and dropped the ball at the feet of
Ronaldinho who promptly set up Luis Enrique to score into an empty net.. At
least four keepers reprieved the good name of their colleagues with clean
sheets, the aforementioned Cañizares plus Esteban (Sevilla), Lainez
(Zaragoza) and also Almunia (Albacete), who has not let a goal in now in four
games. (08.03.04) |
