Another low scoring weekend
in the first division, with only 21 goals over the ten matches. There were two
no-score draws, on Saturday between Víctor Valdés's Barcelona and
Reina's Villarreal, and on Sunday between Aranzubia's Athletic Bilbao and
Cavallero's Celta. Curiously, Valdés, Reina and Aranzubia are all
competing for the third goalkeeper's spot in the Spanish national squad. The
selected candidate's presence in Portugal will only be testimonial though, as
there is not much chance of getting ahead of Casillas and Cañizares. The
Valencia keeper in particular has only let in one goal in the last five league
games, and his clean sheet at the weekend takes him even further clear at the
top of our chart. The only other keeper not to let a goal in this week was
former Spanish international Esteban, who helped his Sevilla close back up on
the UEFA spots with a win over Espanyol. (05.04.04) |
