Not a particularly high
scoring first day of the season, with only 21 goals in all, but only four
keepers managed to keep clean sheets. One of those though was Real Madrid's
Iker Casillas, the first his side have managed since week 18 of last season.
and that was with the same defence as last year due to injuries to new signings
Samuel and Woodgate. Maybe Camacho is starting to have an effect? Víctor
Valdés's Barcelona, Madrid's big rivals this season (on paper at least),
also managed to keep the goals against column to zero, as did Leo Franco's
Atlético and Esteban's Sevilla. Espanyol's new "Tommy N'Kono" Carlos
Kameni also didn't let in a goal for the 70 minutes he was on the pitch, but he
picked up a knock and, with Lemmens out injured, Spanish under 19 keeper Biel
Rivas made his first team debut. Incidentally N'Kono is still at the club as
the goalkeeping coach, and his presence was a big reason why Kameni decided to
join. (31.08.04) |
