If the strikers had a rotten
weekend, that means that the goalkeepers must have had a good one. In fact
discounting the four let in by poor old Juanma from Numancia, the rest of our
number ones only conceded twelve goals between them, equalling the lowest
figure of the season from way back at the beginning of October. No less than
eleven teams kept their goals against column to zero, with three 0-0 draws,
including Leo Franco's Atlético versus Kameni's Espanyol (the Camerooni
keeper making his fourth penalty save in six attempts), Reina's Villarreal
versus Doblas's Betis, and Moyà's Mallorca versus Cañizares's
Valencia.
All of our top five keepers
kept clean sheets, including Casillas at Levante and Valdés against
Getafe, for whom Sánchez Broto (who runs a website selling goalkeeping
equipment) lost a bet with Deco for five thousand pairs of goalkeepers' gloves.
We have bent our rules a little bit to allow the ex Celtic keeper back in to
the chart - what the heck - he needs all the help he can get! Elsewhere all
three of the Basque sides won their games to nil, including Athletic Bilbao
(Aranzubia), Osasuna (Elía) and Real Sociedad, where Riesgo went off
midway through the first half with concussion and had to be replaced by
Alberto. (18.04.05) |
