A fourth clean sheet in a
row for Víctor Valdés, this one worth it's weight in gold as
Barcelona came away from Valencia's Mestalla stadium with three points which
takes them to within one victory of the league title. Valdés will most
definitely play next weekend at Levante, but if they do clinch the championship
there, then he will probably be rested in order to make sure that he wins the
Zamora trophy. Quite the opposite case to Samuel Eto'o, who will play every
minute and will receive as much assistance from his colleagues as possible to
help him tie up the Pichichi prize.
Casillas is the only one who
can realistically beat Valdés, and he and his rival were just two of the
eight "porteros" who recorded clean sheets this weekend. Doblas kept out "the
old enemy" as Betis recorded their first home win against Sevilla in ten years,
and Reina was on top form, tipping two Duda free kicks onto the crossbar to
help Villarreal up to third equal in the table. Sergio Aragoneses took over
from the injured Sánchez Broto to see Getafe ensure a second season in
the top flight, and Kameni (Espanyol), Aranzubia (Athletic) and Munúa
(Deportivo) also contributed to their respective sides' victories. Elsewhere
Ronnie Gaspercic returned to the Albacete line up, replacing the injured
Valbuena as his team beat Levante to keep alive their faint hopes of staying
up. (09.05.05) |
