Andrés Palop was
finally beaten after six games without letting in a goal, although it took a
twice taken penalty to do so. The Sevilla keeper saved Diego Tristán's
first kick, but the referee ordered a retake and this time he could do nothing
to stop it. He did save another penalty later on from Taborda though, and stays
four points ahead at the top of our table as a result. Palop's opposite number
Molina managed to keep a clean sheet in the match, although it was made that
much easier for him when Sevilla had two players sent off.
Víctor Valdés
moved clear in second place after keeping his goals against column to zero at
Villarreal, and Barcelona have only let in two goals now in their last seven
games. Casillas also celebrated his new contract at Real Madrid with a shut
out, although as commented elsewhere the rest of his colleagues contributed
very little to the team's performance and the coach was kicked out as a result.
A welcome clean sheet as well for Mallorca's Toni Prats, his side's 0-3 victory
at Alavés taking them well clear of the danger zone.
Finally Atlético
Madrid B keeper Falcón made his first team debut after Leo Franco limped
off injured against Athletic Bilbao (second choice keeper Cuéllar was
also out with an injury), and had an incident packed day. The youngster was
doing fine until felled by a loud firecracker thrown from the crowd, and
partially deafened by the noise he let in a last minute header from Orbaiz.
