The matches between Viera's Villarreal and Casillas's Real Madrid, and between Falcón's Atlético and Cañizares's Valencia both finished without goals, and Armando (Cádiz), Pinto (Celta) and César (Zaragoza) also recorded clean sheets as their sides won their respective games. Falcón was one of the victims of the virus which attacked nineteen of Atlético's players earlier in the week, but he recovered in time, and with Leo Franco at his father's funeral in Argentina and Cuéllar still injured he returned to the line up.
