A record number of goals
this weekend in the league, but still five keepers were able to maintain clean
sheets. That included our two leaders Víctor Valdés and
Cañizares, who are probably not only battling it out for the Zamora
prize but also for the third goalkeeper's spot in the World Cup squad behind
Casillas and Reina. Cañizares in particular is in sparkling form, and he
kept his goals against column to zero for the fifth league match in a row at
Betis this weekend. Pinto and Leo Franco (who returned to Atlético's
side after three matches out through injury) move up to joint third in our
chart after their teams won their respective matches to nil, and Calatayud also
recorded a clean sheet as Getafe thrashed Gorka Iraizoz's Espanyol 5-0. The
Catalans' first choice keeper Kameni is of course in Egypt playing the Africa
Cup with Cameroon, and is probably glad that he wasn't in the Alfonso
Pérez stadium last Sunday! (23.01.06) |
