Twenty six goals in the
midweek round of matches, not a lot compared to previous seasons but the joint
highest for eleven weeks in what is proving to be a low scoring year. After
four clean sheets in a row Cañizares let in two at Mallorca, and he has
been caught by Celta's Pinto at the top of the table. Víctor
Valdés is only two behind as well after Barcelona beat the Galicians
0-1, his clean sheet one of five this time around. Osasuna's Ricardo helped his
side to consolidate their Champions League spot with a 0-1 win at
Atlético, but Palop's Sevilla are hot on their heels after a 3-0 victory
over Getafe. It was a good week for the three struggling Basque sides as well,
Lafuente and Costanzo both keeping their goals against column to zero as
Athletic and Alavés won, and Real Sociedad taking a point in a 2-2 draw
at Cádiz, with Riesgo having to go off with a head injury midway through
the first half and Alberto taking over. Elsewhere Diego López got his
first league start for Real Madrid in place of the suspended Casillas, and
Contreras returned from his one match ban to take over again from Doblas at
Betis. (05.05.06) |
