Two old faces at the top of
our chart this weekend, and one wonders whether we are already seeing the main
contenders for this season's Zamora prize. Fabio Capello's Real Madrid may not
be at their best at the moment, but the effects of the "catenaccio" are already
bearing fruit, with Casillas only letting in one goal in the first three games.
Four times winner Cañizares won't give his Spanish team-mate an easy
ride though, and he too has only been beaten once to date.
There were clean sheets as
well this weekend for five other keepers, including Valdés (Barcelona),
Aouate (Deportivo), Ricardo (Osasuna), César (Zaragoza) and also
Cavallero (Levante), who vindicated his manager's faith in him despite letting
in eight in his first two matches. And one debutant between the sticks on
Sunday, Racing midfielder Felipe Melo taking over for the last couple of
minutes against Barcelona after Toño was sent off with all three
substitutions made. His first task though was to pick Ronaldinho's penalty out
of the back of the net! (18.09.06) |
