Did we say last weekend was
a bad one for keepers? This one then was a complete disaster as the ball hit
the net a record 42 times in the ten games! Pato Abbondanzieri only let in one,
but he loses his top spot for the first time in many weeks after Víctor
Valdés's clean sheet in Barcelona's 0-6 whitewash of Atlético
Madrid. Once again Leo Franco was lucky not to be playing, although one wonders
whether he would have let in all the goals that his replacement Pichu
Cuéllar did.
Elsewhere Kameni let in five
(he drops out of our chart as a result) and Aranzubia and Cavallero let in four
each. The Levante keeper came on in only the fifth minute of the game for
Molina, who was sent off for handling outside of the area. The goalkeeping hero
of the week though is no doubt Sevilla's Palop, who made three penalty saves in
the UEFA cup final shoot out against Espanyol. He also set up Adriano for the
opening goal with his long throw, and was awarded man of the match for his
efforts. (21.05.07) |
