Real Madrid did Barcelona a
favour this weekend, the three goals they scored against Racing Santander
knocking Toño off the top of the Zamora chart and allowing Víctor
Valdés to take his place. All in all though it was a bit of a funny
weekend on the goalkeeping front. Atlético's Leo Franco and Osasuna's
Ricardo both had to go off injured near the end of their respective games
without letting in a goal, and although Abbiati held out for a clean sheet at
the former club, Elía couldn't prevent Deportivo scoring against the
latter. Two keepers made their debut in La Liga with clean sheets,
Almería's Diego Alves, who came in for Cobeño, himself
contractually bound under his loan agreement from Sevilla not to play, and
Valladolid's youth international Sergio Asenjo, who was preferred to both
Butelle and Alberto. And only one other keeper managed to maintain his goals
against column to zero, Athletic Bilbao's Aranzubia, who was standing in again
for the injured Gorka Iraizoz at Valencia. (03.12.07) |
