Casillas has been raised to
sainthood by his doting fans ("San Iker" they call him), and he put in a
spectacular performance to help Real Madrid to a 2-0 win over Zaragoza this
weekend. Despite having not let in one for four matches, he still however stays
one goal behind plain old Señor Víctor Valdés, who also
kept a clean sheet in Barcelona's 0-2 win at Mallorca.
In fact this weekend no less
than 10 keepers maintained their goals against column to zero, including
Valencia's Hildebrand and Levante's Kujovic in a scoreless city derby. The
former was returning after injury to replace Mora (Cañizares is already
considered to be history by Ronald Koeman), and the latter was making his La
Liga debut after Storari walked out on the club midweek.
Valladolid's young keeper
Sergio Asenjo is making shock waves in his first term in the top flight, and he
has only let in one goal in five games after his side won 0-3 at Getafe (Pato
Abbondanzieri is almost twice his age). Sevilla's De Sanctis is not far behind
though, one goal in four, after a 3-0 win over city neighbours Betis for whom
Ricardo returned after his injury lay-off.
Elsewhere Kameni kept a
clean sheet for Espanyol in his last game before going on to the Africa Cup,
and Toño returned from injury to help Racing to a 1-0 win over Athletic.
Wins to zero as well for Abbiati's Atlético and Notario's Murcia, and
two more changes to report, Viera returning at Villarreal and López
Vallejo replacing the injured César at Zaragoza. (07.01.08)
