Goalkeepers certainly made
the headlines this week! Athletic Bilbao's Armando was hit by a bottle thrown
from the crowd at Betis and had to have stitches put in a nasty cut on his
cheek, the incident causing the referee to abandon the game. A couple of inches
higher and he could have lost an eye, and it is unlikely that he will be able
to play next weekend. And our leader Toño got his cables crossed after
the Getafe players jostled him to get the ball back after scoring a goal, the
Racing keeper kicking out at Gavilán and then getting himself sent off
for brawling with Braulio. Being a straight red, Toño will have to serve
out his one match ban in the midweek cup semi-final second leg, when the two
sides meet again. With all three changes made, central defender Marcano had to
take over between the sticks for the last quarter of an hour, but he proved a
competent replacement, making a couple of good saves before the final whistle.
Elsewhere there were five
clean sheets in a weekend where 28 goals were scored in all. Sergio Asenjo's
Valladolid and Ricardo's Osasuna drew 0-0, and there were victories to zero for
Villarreal, Deportivo and Atlético Madrid, Diego López, Aouate
and Abbiati (who comes in to our chart for the first time) the three
incumbents. A couple of changes to mention as well, Lafuente taking over from
the suspended Kameni at Espanyol, and new coach Javier Clemente bringing in
Carini for Notario at Murcia, a move which didn't have the required effect as
his team got hit for four by Recreativo. (17.03.08) |
