Casillas finally looks to be
on his way to a first Zamora prize, and he thoroughly deserves it after another
brilliant performance which included saving a penalty against Athletic to help
his side to a 3-0 victory. Real Madrid couldn't celebrate the title though this
weekend thanks to a goal from Villarreal's Marcos Senna from the halfway line
which gave him and his minder Diego López (himself back after a one
match ban) a 0-1 win at Betis.
All in all though it was a
low scoring weekend, with six more keepers maintaining clean sheets, including
a third in a row for Aouate at Deportivo, La Liga's most on-form side in the
second half of the season. The Galicians beat Barcelona 2-0, with Pinto making
his debut for the Catalans as Valdés was rested for the Champions League
semi-finals. Carini and Palop were between the sticks as Murcia and Sevilla
drew 0-0, and Sergio Asenjo and Sorrentino also kept their goals against
columns to zero in important victories for Valladolid and Recreativo.
The most notable
reappearance this weekend though was for Valencia's Cañizares, now back
in the fold after Koeman was kicked out. Caretaker coach Voro smoked the
peace-pipe with the three outcasts, and Cañi responded as his side won
3-0 against fellow strugglers Osasuna to stay out of the relegation zone. The
Ches were given a helping hand however by the referee who sent off visiting
keeper Ricardo early on, Elía taking over in goal for the rest of the
match . (28.04.08) |
