Penalty saves and red cards
were the order of the day for our goalkeepers in the latest round of matches.
Ricardo (Betis), Aranzubia (Deportivo), Aouate (Mallorca) and Palop (Sevilla)
all kept out spot kicks, but Aouate and Espanyol's Kameni were both red carded
later on in their respective matches. Mallorca were able to bring on Lux, but
Espanyol had already used up their three substitutions and central defender
Nico Pareja had to goal in goal for the last few minutes. He couldn't save
Recreativo's last minute penalty though, costing his side two vital points.
If you count Kameni (who
didn't let in a goal for 89 minutes), there were five clean sheets this
weekend. The others were Aranzubia (Depor), Roberto (Osasuna), Casillas (Real
Madrid) and Lafuente (Sporting), who was must have been relieved after letting
in five on his debut last week. Elsewhere the recently signed César made
his debut for Valencia as expected against Almería, replacing B team
keeper Guaita. (03.02.09) |
