Did we ask just a couple of
weeks ago whether Casillas would catch Valdés in the table? What seemed
impossible then is a lot more likely after this weekend's games, with Barcelona
losing 4-3 to Leo Franco's Atlético and Real Madrid winning 0-2 at
Espanyol.
Since Madrid lost in the Nou
Camp eleven matches ago they have won ten in a row, only letting in two goals
in all that time. Valdés loses top spot this weekend in any case to
Palop after Sevilla's victory over cup rivals Athletic Bilbao, who themselves
rested Iraizoz and gave a run out to veteran keeper Armando.
Another 28 goals this
weekend, which is round about par for what is turning out to be a high scoring
season. Apart from Casillas, three other keepers managed clean sheets,
including Aranzubia (Deportivo), Riesgo (Recreativo) and Aouate (Mallorca), who
clocked up his third in a row to take his new side out of the drop zone.
