A low scoring start to the
new season, with no less than ten keepers maintaining their goals against
columns to zero. Three games ended in score-less draws, the first two on Sunday
evening between Ricardo's Osasuna and Diego Alves's Almería, and then
between Deportivo and Zaragoza, with Manu standing in for the injured Aranzubia
in the local goal, and ex Mallorca and Atlético keeper Leo Franco
returning to La Liga for the visitors. Later in the evening the match between
Mallorca and Real Madrid also ended without goals, the usual incumbents Aouate
and Casillas both putting in good performances. Elsewhere there were clean
sheets for our reigning Zamora, Víctor Valdés, for Athletic
Bilbao's Gorka Iraizoz, and for Real Sociedad's Claudio Bravo, the Basque side
winning their first game on their return to the top flight. (01.09.10)
