Messi and Ronaldo may be
rewriting the record books in the race for the Pichichi award, but
Víctor Valdés is also writing his own little bit of history on
the goalkeeping front. Valdés's record this season reads like a bit of
binary code, and the keeper has not let in more than one goal since the second
day of the season. This weekend he recorded a "0" against Atlético
Madrid, his third in a row to move even further away from his only real rival,
Casillas, in the table. Another four clean sheets this weekend as well, for
Iraizoz (Athletic), Munúa (Levante), Palop (Sevilla) and Guaita
(Valencia), and a shared one between Málaga's Sergio Asenjo and Arnau.
Asenjo had to leave the field early on against Sevilla after another serious
knee injury, coming just a few weeks after the on-loan Atlético keeper
had returned from a long lay-off for the same problem. We wish him a speedy and
complete recovery. (09.02.11) |
