A few faces missing this year, with for example Palop, Adrián and Munúa moving on, Aouate and Roberto relegated and Ricardo retiring, but some new ones as well, in particular two new boys at Betis, Andersen and Guillermo Sara, and the new keepers of the promoted Almería, Elche and Villarreal. Víctor Valdés decided to stay for another season at Barça though, and he is one of four players who clocked up clean sheets this weekend, the others being Cobeño (Rayo), Bravo (Real Sociedad) and Diego Alves (Valencia).

Some controversy at Real Madrid in the opening weekend as well, new coach Ancelotti continuing on with Mourinho's line of thinking and opting to keep Diego López in goal rather than Casillas, and it remains to be seen whether San Iker keeps his cool or requests a transfer before the window closes. Ancelotti may decide to rotate the two in the end to calm things down. (21.08.13)
