With Valdés not due back until the new year, Courtois is starting to put some daylight between him and his closest rival. The Atlético keeper managed another clean sheet in a 3-0 victory over Valencia, but the crunch may come in the second week of January, when the two leaders meet in the Calderón stadium in a match which signals the half way point of the season. Whether Valdés will be back by then though is still uncertain. It was a relatively quiet weekend however, with another five minders keeping their goals against columns to zero, including Roberto (Granada), Caballero (Málaga), Esteban (Almería), Casilla (Espanyol) and Diego Mariño (Valladolid). Four changes on the goalkeeping front, Keylor Navas (Levante) and Rubén (Rayo) returning for their respective sides after injury lay-offs, Toño being given a run out for Elche instead of Manu Herrera after a decent performance in the cup, and new coach Juan Carlos Garrido opting for Andersen instead of Sara in the Betis goal. Little good that did though as the Danish keeper let in five against an on-form Real Sociedad. (17.12.13)
