A ding-dong battle between Spain’s top two keepers at the moment, Courtois winning back top spot in our chart after losing out to Víctor Valdés last weekend. The on-loan Chelsea minder managed another clean sheet against Real Sociedad, whereas Valdés was hit for three by Juan Antonio Pizzi’s Valencia. Otherwise the news was about past and present Real Madrid keepers, current incumbent Diego López letting in his team’s first in 2014 after a 1-1 draw at Athletic Bilbao’s San Mamés stadium. Casillas meanwhile has accepted his lot as the squad’s number two keeper, extending his best ever run by keeping another clean sheet in the cup against Espanyol (he still has to be beaten in this year’s competition), and his former understudy Antonio Adán made his debut for new club Betis with a shut-out against Espanyol. Elsewhere there were 0-0 draws between Keylor Navas’s Levante and Rubén’s Rayo, and between Moyà’s Getafe and Diego Mariño’s Valladolid, and Toño also kept his goals against column to zero in Elche’s 1-0 victory against Almería.
