Spain’s first choice keeper Iker Casillas was given his first run out of the season in the league on Wednesday night, Ancelotti bringing him in for Diego López in the rescheduled fixture against Valladolid. The Real Madrid coach’s motive was not to help Spain’s World Cup chances though, but to give San Iker a bit of match practice prior to the Champions League final in a fortnight’s time. That meant that only two keepers have played every minute of every match this year, Almería’s Esteban, and Málaga’s Willy Caballero. Esteban was one of seven “porteros” who kept clean sheets this weekend, together with Pinto (Barcelona), Sergio Alvarez (Celta), Manu Herrera (Elche), Julio César (Getafe), Keylor Navas (Levante), and Juan Carlos (Villarreal), who was given a game ahead of Sergio Asenjo on Saturday. Elsewhere Betis B team keeper Pedro López made his first team debut, coming on for the last ten minutes or so against Valladoid after Adán picked up a knock. ( 13.05.14 )
